In 1990 he was accepted at the North Carolina School of The Arts as a composition major under Sherwood Shaffer. He received his Bachelor of Music in 1997 from that institution. Since 1995 he has been working at the National Institute of Culture as a music teacher. In 1998 he started painting with acrylics, and he has made two individual expositions since: “Mundos y Contrastes”( 2000), and “Imágenes de Taboga” (2001). He has also participated in collective expositions. As a painter Jorge Bennett is self-taught.
